Student voice and art
Background to the exhibition
Young people in schools and society have changed over the past generations. Traditionally, student thoughts and opinions are often unheard or disregarded as important in relation to the thoughts or opinions of an adult. In this day and age, “Student Voice” may be defined as the design, facilitation and improvement of learning, within a school context (Mitra 2004), or the expression of student opinions within a larger framework of belief.
On this website, students from Chifley College Bidwill Campus air their powerful thoughts and opinions about personal, national or international topics that matter to them. The “What matters to us” exhibition is an opportunity for these students to share with you the opinions about issues that are dear to their hearts. Below each art work, you will find a statement by the artist.
The students involved explored painting, photography and video to capture the essence of what mattered to them. The artworks, photographs and videos created are taken from students in Miss Dabit’s and Miss Willmot’s classes, as well as the SEAT Leadership Team.
With thanks to: Taylor, Joshua, Iosefo, Bianca, Taylisha, Beatrice, Ben, Student Equity Advisory Team [SEAT], Jamie, Dylan.
